Upside down or Bottom out-which one have you hit?

The other day someone asked me about my coaching for women. I started to say I was a Life Recovery Coach and then it hit me. Actually I am a champion for restoring women’s self-worth. When I think about all the women I have worked with, there has been one very significant common thread in our coaching sessions. Something had happened that severely compromised their self-worth.

Like me, many of them had experienced a loss, failed relationship or a circumstance that tackled how they felt about themselves. I now realize my own life is actually a message for what I do. I completely bottomed out emotionally and found myself living in a dark pit of self-loathing and hopelessness. The darkness in my soul led me to believe that I might actually be better off dead. This experience showed me the depths of pain that we as women can fall into.

I know your cries first hand and I have felt your pain.

Once I understood that my self-worth was totally dependent on me and not in the hands on another, I started to climb back up from the emotional bottom I had been living in for years. My mission became that I must teach what I also must learn.

Something that was absolutely fixable had taken so many years of my life as well as almost end it.

Self-worth is the foundation for successful relationships and careers. Without it there is no support for the life you desire. (Tweetable)

It is our perceptions and thoughts of sharp criticism and hurtful experiences that plant the seeds of unworthiness in our delicate minds. Our loved ones assume we will get over it but sadly the scars start to grow internally. It can take surprisingly little things to diminish our sense of self-worth. But when it is gone-holy crap it’s a fast ride down.

The good news is that self-worth is so fixable. It comes from the inside out and you are the only one that can heal it. Your perceptions (your ego’s reaction) to events comments and challenges have created how you feel about you!

I discovered a five step process for living with Faith and restoring our Self-Worth

The first step is changing your focus. Don’t look for things outside of you (clothes, a man or money) to make you feel better. They are temporary band aids for the wound inside of you.

Real healing comes from going within, feeling the pain and pushing the veil of shame and guilt that you have created aside. When you face shame, it weakens its grip on you. Allow the light of self knowing to wipe out the darkness you have held on to. The beginning of climbing up from your emotional bottom is understanding that you put yourself there through your thoughts and not the truth about yourself. You have the power to fix it.

The only difference between you and someone else is your thoughts! (Tweetable)

This is not a complicated process. Walk with me as I take you through it. In the next blog post I will introduce you to Step 2.

Faithfully,

Mal

I Admit It, I Am A Romance Junkie

I remember like it was yesterday, I was twelve years old with my friend Suzie and we went to see “Blue Hawaii” with Elvis Presley in early 1960’s. I was on the edge of my chair watching him swiveling his hips and singing love songs. Half my popcorn was in my lap and never made it to my mouth. I was so captivated by the movie that I felt like I was in it. This would become the beginning of my fascination for romantic films. Another favorite was Rome Adventure with Suzanne Pleshette and Try Donahue.

I wasn’t allowed to watch TV during school nights. So almost every weekend I would go to the movies. I would cry and laugh with the leading actresses, almost mouthing every word. How I loved Gone with the Wind, Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Ghost with Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore.

I soon learned as I grew up that those incredible love stories, we’re just that-fictitious stories with imaginary characters. Falling in love wasn’t really like that all. In fact it could be really painful. There were no knights in shining armor.

Truth be told, relationships are very challenging, take a lot of work and in many cases just don’t work no matter how hard you try. So how do you create something that is today such a challenge for so many of us?

Who is running the show? Me or mini-me!

If you missed it last week, my new book “Choosing Happiness” which is an anthology with an amazing group of me bookwomen hit NO 1 on five different lists on Amazon. We even out performed ”Ruby” which is Oprah’s top pick this month and Tony Robbin’s new book. It was such an exciting day watching this baby work its way up. Here is the link to Amazon if you didn’t grab your copy yet. >>> //amzn.to/1CoUbMG

But in the middle of all this excitement, I had a battle going on in my head. As good as life can be, there will always be challenges sneaking around the corner.

It hit me like a lightning bolt that I am carrying some old crap around. This stuff is actually influencing my perception of the present moment. I physically feel like something heavy is on my shoulders. So I stopped everything and just sat with what I was feeling.

After about thirty minutes of just paying attention to my breath and the way my body felt, these thoughts started to emerge. I was feeling resentment, I was carrying judgment and I had the need to be right. These are three of the most significant blocks to inner peace and real joy.

I was thinking who me? Yes that mini me, the voice of the ego that I call Louise was screaming in my head. The big conscious me, know better Mal was thinking that I am way too smart to get trapped in such a negative mindset. While the inner battle was going on, I was finding myself trapped in the middle of all this mind clutter.

I know how to clear resentment and judgment through meditation and journaling. Also being a practitioner of the Course in Miracles has done wonders. However I couldn’t shake that feeling, that need to prove to myself that I was right about something that had happened. The more I contemplated the issue, the more agitated I became. Holy crap, I was right!

So do I let these poisonous self-righteous thoughts sicken my state of happiness? Hell no, I needed to take affirmative action. I created affirmations around my struggle and repeated them to myself throughout the day. I wrote in my gratitude journal and expressed appreciation for that sixth sense of mine that shows up every now and then. My attachment to my thoughts started to soften. I was able to envision a more realistic perception than the one I was clinging to.

I know when this inner mental battle starts whipping me around, I have to step up and make a conscious choice to think differently, to think about being happy.

I can focus on being right or I can pull my vibration up and get in alignment with what I really want. I understand fully that what I put my attention on will show up in my physical experience. So this girl is choosing to stay with what feels better. The best part of this entire process is the situation is no longer controlling how I feel. I worked through it and actually decided to take a much more empowering path that will get me where I need to be.

So the big lesson here, is continue to Choose Happiness, it really works.

Love and Live Faithfully,

Mal

I love giving things away!

Happy New Year!

I love a new year because it means new beginnings, new intentions for what I want to create and do with my life.

For the past several years my burning desire to serve women has become so clear. I know today without a moment of hesitation that my purpose is to teach women, to gently guide them to rediscovering a divine power that already exists within them and release the blocks that keep them from experiencing their bliss.

If you don’t nurture and lovingly care for this power, it gets buried beneath the debris you acquire from the experiences of your life. Past upsets seedlingand trauma bury it deep within your soul.

I must admit at times that I am guilty of allowing debris to build up which diminishes my power and the ability to make choices. When I am fully aligned, I am excited by the unlimited potential I see before me.

I am no different than you. WE ALL HAVE UNLIMITED POTENTIAL.

How would your life change if you tapped into your heart’s desire and started creating what you have been dreaming about? Your excitement is a direct link to source energy. The more excited you are, the clearer your vision becomes. Your excitement is the window to your soul.

My excitement has inspired me to offer you a gift. During February 1-14th, I will be doing ten free Discovery Calls for potentially new clients. I will teach you to tap into your source energy and become a magnificent manifester in 2015. Because of my demanding schedule I can only give ten sessions.

Are you all you want to be today? I hope you will take advantage of this offer. I would be honored to show you how to get more out of life, fulfill your purpose and create loving relationships you desire.

What is the most joyous thing you could create this year? I will show you how to do it. You need to start planting the seeds early for a miraculous new year. Click here to contact me.

Here’s to creating your heart’s desire.

Love and Live Faithfully,

Mal

My Biggest Gift this Year.

wrapped gift2014 has presented me with some of my greatest challenges. These painful and disruptive experiences, which I call lessons from earth school have inspired me to reach a new level of personal growth and self-reflection.

I must admit there were times that I didn’t feel like being compassionate and forgiving of unacceptable behavior. I wanted to say F-off or better yet hit my opposition with a barrage of insults. Instead, I walked away slowly and thought things through. I listened to my head instead of my bruised ego.

I have been pushed and pulled this year in directions I never thought possible. In the midst of these internal emotional hurricanes, I understood that living my truth, being who I am and not ignoring my boundaries was the path I needed to take.

There are people in my life that I have loved but they are no longer in alignment with my mission and my desire to serve women who are emotionally wounded. In some way I threaten them because I choose not to conform to their demands of me.

Do I really want to stop in the midst of fulfilling my divine purpose on this planet to ease the wounded ego of someone who deep down probably doesn’t like me much anyway?

I started this journey three years ago when I released my book. I have met thousands of women with extraordinary stories who have faced fear and allowed their pain to propel them to living with purpose. As we grow spiritually we shed layers, similar to a caterpillar becoming a butterfly. I feel my wings spreading, my heart’s desire becoming more real each day. I have a purpose while I am here to help women heal and reclaim their lives. I am not going to quit just because I am challenged, insulted, mistreated or emotionally bullied.

This year I discovered that I am stronger than I ever thought I could be. I am more loving in the most compassionate way. I know how to truly forgive others and myself.

I have developed an awareness to make choices that empower me but do not cripple others.

My work is about collaboration, not competition. I feel the grace of the Holy Spirit around me, guiding me. My intentions are for the highest and best outcome for all parties involved.

I can feel my emotional and spiritual growth. My anger is short lived. I do not need to win or be right. I just want to walk away with peace of mind. Tomorrow when I wake up I will be calm and feel complete. I will know that I did the very best I could the day before. I feel comfortable I took the high ground and stayed out of the muddy fields of revenge and cruel attacks on the individuals that challenged me. I send them love instead to heal the wounds that are buried so deep within them that they don’t know they exist.

Courage to do the right thing regardless…is the greatest gift I have received this year.

In what ways did you grow this year? I would love to hear what spiritual muscles you strengthened this year.

Love and Live Faithfully,

Mal

A Tug of War Always Takes Two!

ginny-pigsYesterday I was puttering around my home and starting to take out some Christmas decorations when someone I love called me with a request. Immediately I knew it wasn’t really a request but more of an emotional confrontation. I could feel the pull on the imaginary rope in my hands. My body started to bend slightly toward them. I was listening to their point of view, their perception of a situation. Meanwhile I am thinking where the hell is this coming from? Obviously my perception was very different. In fact I was completely caught off balance by this recent tug on the rope of emotional connection between us.

I started to pull on my side just a bit to keep my balance while I processed what I was hearing. The crazy Mal from years ago would have dragged their ass down the street without even thinking. Was this the truth as I knew it? Is the other person showing me a scenario that is clouded by their perception or is it my reality? I was holding on while all these thought ran through my mind. I knew that I had been very compassionate with them. In fact I prayed for guidance daily because the relationship had become so challenged. Deep within me, my intention was very clear. I wanted to maintain a presence of grace and love in all my actions and honor my boundaries at the same time.

After they left, I made my intentions very clear in a follow up email. I was not buying into their emotional drama. They can have their perception and I can have mine. I am not responsible for what they think or feel. I choose not to engage in this conflict but instead to release the rope and walk away.

Afterwards it hit me how simple this three step process was for dealing with emotional conflict.

  1. Maintain balance: Listen without over reacting to the other person’s opinion or position on what they experienced.
  2. Think: What is your truth in this situation? Is your perception coming from your heart or your head where there is a hot button called ego.
  3. Release: Let go of the tension in the rope that is holding the both of you in conflict. Respond from your heart and walk away.

It feels amazingly empowering not to be engaged in unconscious conflict.

Just because someone invited you into an argument doesn’t mean you have to show up!

Faithfully,

Mal

Was that intentional?

IMG_1159Are you one of those people that wake up daily and allows circumstances to unfold and pull you all over the place? Well if the answer is yes, don’t feel too badly. Most people live their lives this way. They jump from one situation to the next without a plan or thoughtful response. I call this living life as a reactionary. I know because I was one. I use to feel like one of those whirling punching toys for kids.

Being a reactionary brings on high stress levels which can cause cortisol to spike in the body, increase heart rate and an assortment of other physical ailments. When you start your day without intention on how you would like things to be, you know what you get? You are living your life as a slave to old behaviors and thoughts. You end up expending twice as much energy only to accomplish half of what you could have done.

But when you set an intention on how your day is going to be, your experience is very different. You start your day waking up on time and focused on what you want to happen. Intention connects with your purpose. Instead of a day filled with random acts that have no meaningful connection, life becomes a progression of synchronistic activities that support your desires.

Intention gives you an element of control because you have a vision. You are putting out energetically what you desire. The Universe responds to your energy. Intentions have your soul behind them and are far more powerful than a written goal. You are living from your heart and not reacting from your head. When you set an intention daily you break the pattern of old habits that may no longer serve you. Instead you are taking deliberate actions that support your desires and not someone else’s.

Here are three steps for intentionally creating what you want in your life.

  1. Get a cute spiral notebook, a calendar with pull off pages or a journal. I use a calendar from Abraham Hicks that I just love. The page has two columns, things I intend to do today and how I intend to be today. On the other side are fabulous quotes from Abraham.
  2. Take 15 minutes before you go to sleep and write down your top three intentions for the next day and why you want them. As you sleep the intentions are sinking into your conscious mind.
  3. When you wake up review your intentions for 5 minutes and revise if needed.

You will absolutely be amazed at the ease and grace that shows up in your day as you work through your intentions. You will start to eliminate haphazard chaos, confusion and uncertainty.

Intention brings clarity which creates the results you want!

Intention is the magnet for attracting your desires!

My dear ones, we are all born with intention inside of us. Now go use it!

Wishing you an intentionally magnificent day!

Faithfully,

Mal

What are you missing?

IMG_1127Today I was out walking my dog early in the morning. It is a beautiful New England Fall day. There is a slight chill in the air and the colorful leaves were falling to the ground like big pieces of confetti. My dog, Hannah (she is really my soul sister) wanted to stop and the smell flowers. She stood there sniffing different ones and was having the best time. Immediately I thought to myself, when was the last time I stopped to smell the flowers.

It made me realize how caught up we get with our electronics, our inbox or some other thing that pulls us away from our precious present moment. Time is flying by far too quickly. It seems like it was spring yesterday. Where did the summer go?

What was really startling for me was the realization that I have not been appreciating some of the small beautiful things around me each day. I have been living out of my head too much these past few months. Bless you Hannah for pulling me back to reality.

We continued our walk and I could feel my eyes tear up with gratitude for having Hannah and for the both of us being so healthy that we can be out and about enjoying the beautiful weather. This is something I have been taking for granted but I will not any more.

Sadly when I was walking around San Diego last week, I saw homeless women all over the place. It broke my heart because I couldn’t believe how many there were. I stopped and talked to several and gave them money for food. I asked them about their circumstances. Various things had happened financially that forced them to now live out of a shopping cart. They can survive there because of the mild climate. You shake your head in disbelief that women could be living like this in this day and age.

I realized how fortunate I am. I have a beautiful home, food on the table and nice clean clothes to wear.

The next time you are out walking about, pay attention to what is happening around you. Take it all in, breath in the fresh air. Do you notice some one who could use a helping hand? What do you see that makes you feel so grateful for all that you have? You will be amazed at what you have not been seeing.

Life is too short dear friend not to appreciate every minute of it. You can always get more stuff but you can’t buy more time. Make every day a special day. Oh and most important, touch someone’s heart with your loving kindness.

Faithfully,

Mal

How important is Mindset?

Mindset is “a habitual mental attitude that determines how you will interpret and respond to situations.”

After reading that definition from Webster’s Dictionary, it stopped me in my tracks. I never thought of how important mindset is and it can direct your life.

Mindset is not some diddly little attitude you walk around with. In fact it is the lens you look at life with. Your own personal filtering system on how you will play the game of life.

I consider myself as someone who has a very positive attitude, always looking at the glass half full. But honestly, I have never delved into consciously studying how I respond to situations. Not until now.

I am a very strong believer that you are not meant to walk this journey of life and personal awakening alone. I am completely transparent about my 25 years of addiction and 26 years of recovery. Did I do this alone? Hell no!

At different stages of personal discovery, I sought out coaches that were proficient in taking me to the next level and mentors that would inspire me to open my mind to endless new possibilities. Without the help of these glorious souls who contributed greatly to my development, I would not be the woman I am today. I have become masterful in so many areas of my life and I now teach other woman to do the same.

Women are meant to live passionate and purposeful lives. Once you have the lessons, the strategy for mastering the game of life, you become a powerful creator in your life. You realize you are deserving of all your desires.

I am off to participate in a Mindset Retreat with the acclaimed Fabienne Fredrickson. I am so excited for the opportunity to go. It’s one more step in my personal development to be the best expression of myself. The wiser and more conscious I IMG_1035become the better coaching and support I can offer the women I am blessed to serve.

What I am discovering is that my life will be a process of continued self-discovery, revelations and releasing what no longer serves me. When I think I know it all, a cosmic 2X4 hits me on the head to wake me up. I will never have all the answers but the pursuit of finding them is absolutely delicious.

I can’t wait to share with all of you when I return what I learn from the Mindset Reatreat.

I will post some golden nuggets on Facebook while I am gone. Stop by personal page (facebook.com/malduane) or my Fanpage //www.facebook.com/malduanecoach for a sneak peak.

Faithfully,

Mal
