Defining Your Spiritual Practice

A Q&A with Mal Duane. Interviewed by Andrew Mondia, founder of The Pear Shaped View

Andrew:  How can different forms of Spiritual practice helps others and what ones do you find help you?

Mal: I use meditation, prayer and journaling every day to become centered in my higher consciousness. A spiritual practice is something that you make personal to you. There is no wrong or right way, just what feels comfortable to you. You need to take time to slow the chatter of your mind down from the daily distractions so that your higher voice can come through and guide you on your path.  If you can create a sacred space for doing your spiritual practice, it helps you to connect to that inner voice you are looking for. I use a special chair in my home. I have a wonderful candle, some beautiful pictures of people who I love, a lovely small Buddha and beautiful mala beads I got as a gift. They are placed on a tray so if I need to move them, I can do so easily. This is my special place to meditate and connect daily to my divine guidance. Instantly, I am able to relax in my sacred space. The beautiful aroma of my candle helps me to connect to my heightened awareness.

At first you may be restless but with time the mental distractions slow down and open your mind to a different voice. You begin to experience the peace and love of the divine guidance emerging from your soul. A light begins to shine on your path and your ability to make choices becomes so clear to you. You start to stand in your power; you understand who you are and your true purpose for living. Everything starts to make sense and you begin to release those things that no longer support your journey. You understand for the first time that you are perfect just the way you are.

Women in Business and Self Love

Q&A with Mal Duane as asked by Charly Leetham, Founder of Ask Charly Leetham

Charly Leetham: Tell me about Women, Self Love and being in business for themselves.  What should Women consider?

Mal Duane: Self-love is a very important component to a woman’s success in her personal and private life. If we do not honor ourselves, how can we expect others to do so in the personal and business relationships we build? And if a woman doesn’t love herself, how can she sell her business (which is, in a way, selling herself)?

When we respect and love ourselves unconditionally, we also will continue to work on our personal and professional development. Someone who loves herself and sets intentions to better herself will go after the knowledge, skills and continued training to help her become better at what she does for a living.

Finally, when we love ourselves, we become better collaborators. A person who is strong and grounded can take the time to see both points of view and not feel defensive when she is criticized. Someone who loves herself is strong and does not feel the need to compete with other team members.

Why Did Your Write Alpha Chick? A Q&A with Mal Duane

A Q&A with Mal Duane. Interviewed by D’Vorah Lansky, Best Selling Author and founder of Authors Marketing Circle.

D’Vorah:  I would love to ask you about your book. I think our listeners would be quite interested in your journey, and the topic of your book.

Mal:  D’vorah, the book is to teach women how to move away from the pain of the past, connect with their present, their authentic voice, and then create the life that they’re looking for in the future. I wrote this book and shared my own personal experience of transformation for women to read so that they know that I walk the walk and talk the talk, that it can be done. I’m just the girl next door, and I was able to do it, and I think through this message of the book, other women will be able to do it as well.

D’vorah:  This is important work because so many women have to hide in fear, and they don’t know how to find their way through the maze to be able to find the power within them.

Mal:  You’re absolutely right. In the past 23 years, I have met so many women in my journey that started to express that they were recognizing how unhappy they were in their lives. There’s a shift going on that women are just beginning to identify what’s missing, what’s not quite right with their lives. They are starting to see they’re really suffering. It may be for various reasons of addiction, a failed relationship, a lost job, a loss of a family member, but they’re starting to identify their suffering. The only thing is, they don’t know that they  have a way out, a way to transform from that pain and tap into their power.

D’vorah:  This opens a lot of questions for me. One of them is:  “How can women access this information, and is that partly why you wrote this book?”

Mal:   Yes. I discovered, in doing my own work and my own transformational process, my own recovery process – it became apparent to me that I was doing certain things over and over again. When I really started to look at the process that I had been using that was so successful in changing my life, I identified that there were  –  originally I thought there were seven steps – and then I realized there were truly five steps in this process of personal transformation.  These five steps, interestingly enough, spell FAITH.

Standing Empowered Doesn’t Make Life Perfect

I write a lot about women discovering their authentic voice and standing in their power. It is wonderful to leave your past mistakes behind and embrace the present moment with complete focus. However, it does not mean that challenges will not arise and even try to knock you down, or pull you off course. Staying connected to that the divine guidance that you have discovered will eventually be tested — and you need to be prepared.

Without a daily spiritual practice you can easily slip back into your old thinking. The lower self-ego-driven-voice (which we have worked so hard to silence) can come screaming through. All the negative and painful emotions from the past can surface like old seaweed on the ocean beach of your dreams. You need to tap into that higher guidance through mediation and prayer to stay on your course. The silence you experience will steer the ship on which you are traveling.

Don’t throw your anchor overboard because someone disagrees with you. Dig deep into your soul and examine your intentions and your purpose.  Are you living your truth? Are you standing in the light? Don’t allow someone else’s darkness to obscure the voyage you are on.

“It takes courage…to endure the sharp pains of self discovery rather than choose to take the dull pain of unconsciousness that would last the rest of our lives.”

― Marianne Williamson, A Return to Love: Reflections on the Principles of “A Course in Miracles”

Life will always have unhealed perceptions swirling in the winds around us, but stay on course and this storm, too, shall pass.

Mal Duane
